    About the Stardust:
A mob beginning and and explosive ending.  The Stardust was located at 3000 South Las Vegas Boulevard and had a futuristic/outerspace theme.  The Stardust's neon sign became one of the iconic symbols of Las Vegas for many years.  It opened in 1958 and was operated by men associated with the Chicago and Cleveland crime syndicates.  In the 1970's the Stardust was run by Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal, a notorious bookmaker.  A skimming operation was exposed in the 1980's which lead to the sale of the Stardust to the Boyd Group. On November 1, 2006, the Stardust closed forever and it was imploded on March 13, 2007.  Boyd Gaming had plans of building a new mega-resort called the Echelon. However, during the economic downturn, construction was halted.  In 2013, it was sold to a Malaysian company which is now building Resorts World Las Vegas, an Asian-themed mega-resort.  The new resort opened June 24, 2021.
